Smooth 5.45 Treadmill review

13 September 2008 One Comment

The Smooth 5.45 treadmill tries to continue the success achieved by its predecessor: the Smooth 5.25 unit. However, we haven’t noticed any serious improvements and, further more, we have the feeling that the producing company starts using low quality parts.

The Smooth 5.45 treadmill has good technical performances and can be compared with the top treadmills in its class. This model is a good choice for walkers or light joggers but not something we would recommend to heavy trainers.

Even if it doesn’t excel on chapters like design and electronics and it should offer a better control interface, this machine is a good and solid one. Not something that will break the charts but one that will do the job for a long time.

Conclusion for Smooth 5.45 treadmill review

The Smooth 5.45 model replaced the old 5.25 unit which was one of the most successful treadmill ever built by this company. This machine continues the line started by the 5.25 but, after we tested it for several days we cannot place it in the top 5 treadmills for the under $1000 category.

The machine comes with a good motor that is able to produce 2.5 CHP and has a reasonable running area (55 inches in length and 20 inches wide). The cushioning system provides a decent protection and everything works as expected. But… it doesn’t leave the impression you are dealing with something superior.

The console has a simple design. There are 6 buttons and a classic led console. The materials looks cheap and the navigational system could be improved. Also the quick speed and incline keys are missing.

The folding system works pretty well but don’t expect to save a lot of space. The machine is pretty big & heavy so make sure you assemble it in the right place. It will be hard to move it after this operation is done.

The warranty is a decent one but get the extend one if you decide o buy this unit.

It’s not an impressive treadmill, definitely not a top unit but in the same time is not a bad deal.

As a conclusion for the Smooth 5.45 treadmill: in our opinion the previous model was better than this. The machine has a good value and will satisfy the needs of a light trainer. However, there are other models like NordicTrack 2500 or Sole F63 that are simply better.

Beware Smooth treadmills! I have a $3,000 machine, 6 1/2 year old, motor still running and still under warranty. The treadmill is useless. Console is shot, replacement console mfg. by bankrupt company and not available. Smooth’s response? Tough luck. Their warranty is useless, and so is their equpment.
